I didn't hear anything about strafe jumping, but I do know there will definately be rocket jumping in Quake 4. Strafe jumping began in Quake 1 as a bug in the game. Whenever you walked forward against the wall, it allowed you to walk a little faster, and when you jumped off an incline, you jumped a little higher. Ever since Q1, each Quake game, including Doom 3, has been built off of the original. Thus, Q2 game engine came from modifications of the Q1 game engine, Q3A from Q2, Doom 3 from Q3A, and of course Q4 from Doom 3. So I wouldn't be surprised if the strafe jumping bug was left intact.

Either way, they should both be out for Christmas sales. If xboxers aren't totally seperated from PC users in some sort of battle.net type of network, maybe there will be a Q4 server cvar ie sv_allowxbox 0/1 or something along those lines. I dunno, just speculating.

Cannon fodder is right. I don't like modern controllers. The last console system I had was a Sega Genesis. That and the first Nintendo controllers were pretty good I thought. Now they are too big, too many buttons, and those little thumb joysticks I find too uncontrolable...maybe it takes a lot of getting used to. I like the buttons in close to the palm like the old controllers. I wonder if mouse/kybd can be used with the xbox 360. Games are in high def on the 360...Q4 would look good on my HDTV in 5.1 from the Lazy Boy chair Laughing

On another note, Lets hope they come out with more than 4 ctf maps on this release. It seems that was the major complaint of Q3, wasn't it?

Crap, I just read another review on Quake4. Nothing really exciting about it, just more of the same about how it's gonna be the greatest game ever! Shocked but the bad news was that they said the game will be released on PC and Xbox360 at the same time. Crap, you mean we have to wait for the Xbox360 to come out before we can play on PC? Now that sucks, I was hoping that we could get it first.

One thing I've been wondering about is, if we will be able to play against console kids online. I know xbox is a fee based online thing, will that stop them from playing on public servers, or will it just let them on the net to play on public servers? If they are able to play on public servers, that will mean allot of cannon fodder for us PC players. You know that no game controller can beat a keyboard and mouse. This could be fun! Very Happy Any thoughts?

Hah yeah, but just think how good it will run 6 years from now!

I haven't read the reviews yet but I'm getting excited from reading your comments. I have a very good feeling about Quake 4 mulitplayer. Thus far, every Quake game has been multiplayer-worthy and I have very fond memories of each era. Hmmm...was there any mention of strafe-jumping? I'll have to go read those articles.

I agree with you, playing a good single player game is fun once in a while. But the most anticipated single player games over the past year (Doom 3, and Half-Life 2) left me hanging. Thankfully for Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil, my spirits have been revived for single player games, because D3 RoE was damn good, and at least made up for what Doom 3 lacked. Now hopefully the Half-Life 2 expansion pack will revive my spirits because frankly, the ending sucked.

As for Q3A, it's still my most favorite game of all time, but I can tell I've been playing it too long (going on six years this December). You know that feeling you get when you do something for too long, and you sort of hit a plateau, and never improve? Like working on an assembly line, ect.? Well, that's what playing Q3A feels to me now. Although, I'm sort of expecting Q4 to let me down, because with those high details/graphics and with the Doom 3 code, that only means one thing: really, really low FPS. And that means buying a new rig.

I got that feeling also. Like he had played the whole game. Thats why I posted it and said it was a must read. The thing I like about the news so far on Quake 4, is that the multi is based on Quake3. They even said that they are rewriting the doom3 network code to speed things up. Doom multi just didn't have that fast paced feel of quake3. Nothing out there does as far as I've found. I love that fast, adreniline rush pace that quake3 gives. I hate those sneek and snipe games. I love the run and gun action, and so far it looks like thats what they're planning for Quake4. I also loved, from the interview with Todd Hollenshead, that rocket jumping, lauchpads, bounce pads, and nailgun wall climbing are in the plans as well.

I know how you feel about single player, but I enjoy a good single player every once and a while. I rarely finnish a single player unless it's really good. I'll play for a bit and say too myself, that sucks, now lets see what multi is like. I'm still waiting for a kick ass multi like quake3 and I hope this is it, to carry me through to the future. I've been getting a little bored with quake3 lately, not that I don't like it or am gonna stop playing, but it's just getting a little old (no offence quake3) Laughing but it's time for quake4 to carry the torch.

I read that review on Quake 4 that you posted on the front page. I thought it was excellent. Reading that review made me think that the person who wrote it already got to play the whole damn game. Sounded like he knew everything, and gave away the entire story with Kane being captured and all. Frankly, I don't really care a whole lot about the single player game for Quake 4. I just want another good multiplayer game to play, so that I can finally move on from Q3A, lol. Laughing
