We can hope for the best, at least thats what I'm doing. I know that part of the world has a history, and thats why it's important to do "something". Maybe war with Iraq wasn't the best way to bring that part of the world into the 21'st century, but now that we're there, we have to finish. If it works in Iraq, a democracy, can you imagine the domino affect that would happen. When the other country's see how it moves ahead, there will be outcry for rights etc in those regimes. I've heard that in Iran, the young are sick of the clerics and mullas running the country. it's just a matter of time for them. I just hope that it works in Iraq, it could save that part of the world from living in the stone age.

Another thing to think about with Iraq, is that the "insurgents" are mostly from outside Iraq. They are Saudi's and Serian and Jordanian. They are the terrorists who would be trying to get here to blow shit up. So I would rather that we fight them over there where our guys at least heve been trained and have armor and shit, rather than have to hear about some Mall being blown up over here.

Defend from a distance. Sometimes the best defense, is an offense.

We did lose a lot of men back in World War II, and that was the unfourtunate price to pay back then. But in my opionion, this war is nowhere near as big as World War II, yet we are losing so many perfectly good soldiers.

Yes, having a democracy in the Middle East would be nice. But it'll never happen, I guarantee it. If you read in history books, the Bible, and other good sources, that area of the planet has been a sore spot for many centuries. The people in that area of the world hate each other with a passion. Too many wars and incidents have happend from thousands of years ago for them to just all of a sudden in the year 2005 to decide to forget about what happend in the past and get along. Plus, the people in that part of the world have been ruled the way they are being ruled over, by one man, an oligarchy, or by religion, from the beginning of time. They have never experienced what it's like to live in a democracy. Just like China. China has never been united, that area of the world is just too vast to unite and control under one democratic government. Like the warlord feuds that went on before they were ruled by the first emperor, which was way before they became a Communist nation. We're in Iraq right now, trying to introduce something to these people that they have never experienced before, and we are asking them to trust us and try it. That's like trying to get a baby that has tried nothing but candy to eat broccoli. It'll either not try it, or eat it then spit it out.

I don't want to sound like I'm PRO war or anything, but just to put it in perspective. When the US invaded Iwo Jima in WW2, we lost 28,000 men in 3 weeks. We landed 70,000 and before we could say we won the island we had lost 28,000. So 1,700 in about 3 years isn't all that bad. Considering that we are taking a whole country. Now, any loss of life is not a good thing, but sometimes a price has to be payed to gain an objective. Having a democracy in the middle east will be worth it in the long run. We just need the Iraqi's to step up to the plate. They've been beat down for so long, it's taking longer than we expected for them to want to fight for their country.

Does anyone know when this war in Iraq is going to end? Everyday I listen to the news on the radio, I'm so sad to hear of so many American soldiers, as well as other innocent people, being blown or shot to pieces. I heard that on average, 3 US soldiers are killed everyday. That's a lot of goods to waste.
