I'm with ya. This looks awesome. I was concerned about rocket jumping and the bunny hopping, (you know when you run and jump to increase speed) but I found a few more in-game video's that quiet my fears on those points. I can't remember where I found them or I'd mention the site here for credit. I would have put them on the front page but the quality is crap. They were done at Quakecon 2005 with a video camera over a players sholder at the monitor. The sound is not there, just noise. Remember none of these video's are of the final release. They are from the Demo thats going around for writers and developers, and the one shown at Quakecon. Since these are from someone actually playing the demo who has some skills, you get to see bunny hopping and rocket jumping. I had read that the physics are the same as Quake3 and by these vids, it apears to be true. Ok, on to the vids. BTW, they are all quicktime video's.
1...Some CTF action. Not much here, but a little bunny hopping. Follows a flag carrier for a bit, then looks for bad guys. Downlod it here.
2...Seems like in this one, he is alone on the map. He explores the straif jumping technique and then towards the end, does a little nailgun wall climbing. Really gives the physics feel of Quake3. Download here.
3...Alone on the map again. Try's out rocket jumping and you can see the damage that occurs as a result. Again, physics seem right in line with Quake3. Looks like this is gonna be a winner if they get the network play worked out. Download vid 3 here.
Remeber to have the volume turned down, as the crap that comes out the speakers has nothing to do with the video's. Also, if you look close, it apears to be the black silloette of a guys arm in the bottom left in a few shots as he works the mouse. |

Two big thumbs (as well as two big toes) all the way up! Awesome videos. I think Q4 will definately be a big hit now, come October. I showed the videos to my roommate (since he just players World of Warcraft and Everquest types of games) and it actually caught his eye and sparked some interest to him. The Deathmatch map looked kind of like an OSP style map, rather than a baseq3 (q3a single player) type of map. I've always been a bigger fan of baseq3 maps than OSP maps, because they're more fun to play on, and not built specifically just for competitions. The vehicle video really made my mouth water because I used to be a big time Mechwarrior 2 fan back in the mid 90s. Mechwarrior 2, Mechwarrior 2 Ghost Bear, and Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries were mainly single player games, but they were a hell of a lot of fun. I can't wait to try one of those Mechs, Walkers, or whatever they call them.
So the only things that concern me now are the network coding, the FPS, the maps (I would like to see more real-life & fun style baseq4 maps, rather than plain and simple OSP maps), and I would also like to see an online mode included for Q4 with just vehicles only. |

I put up some new video's I found on the front page. They are of some multi and SP vehicles. Not sure what to think. Looks a bit doomish, but seems faster paced like quake3. Multi has the launch pads and bounce pads, so it's quake3ish. Haven't seen RJ's but from interviews, they are supposed to be in. I just hope so.
So, what do you think of the action? |
