| About two years ago in the q3a 1.11/1.16 community, before I moved to the q3a 1.32 community we had a server called Aztecas. We played the baseq3 ctf maps there and there was a setting where you would instantly die after 2 seconds if you did not move outside of a certain radius. It was a good setting for q3ctf4, since a lot of people like to camp there. But on the other maps, it wasn't so great because there were many times where it killed me when I wasn't camping, but just listening for footsteps. Also, if you were chatting in the game, you had to type fast or else you would die. |

If you ever played Quake II on-line, then you know it would acually tell you, that you had to move or the game would kill you. It's been a while but it was something like 5 seconds and that was it. You got a warning at about 3 and then if you didn't move, your dead. Also, you couldn't just jive back and forth, you actually had to MOVE to another spot. Boy, those were the days.

well i personally think that camping is when you sit on the rail pad with unlimited ammo, but other camping on ctf4 I feel is fine, not many places to sit on that map with out being fragged, but i think suicide for weapon is gay!!!!! Ive dont it a couple of time but dont think its a good defense tactic!!

Nothing like giving the "Quake Dictionary" definition of camping. I feel it is a little more flexible. Now hear me out. In a compitition or grudge match, all bets are off, but in a friendly game on a public server, camping is exactly as you say, but in my humble opinion, it's not right to reload. (although when my teams in trouble I do it to sometimes ).
As far as people missuseing the term, your right mang, they get railed a few times, and see that it's the same player, and scream "CAMPER!!". They don't even bother to see where the player is, or what they are doing.
I can remember a game when someone called me a camper and I was following them accross the middle and railed them in the back. I never laughed so hard. But thats what you get from people who like to cry.

I have to agree with your general definition of camping. That's the old school original definition that goes back to Quake 1 (or maybe even DooM?) People abuse the term.

The true...real...and only definition of camping is guarding a weapon to keep others from getting to it. That would mean that sitting on the top of CTF4 with a rail, guarding the rail from others, is camping.
Sitting in your base using the rail, is not camping...that's defending the base (Like you would with any other weapon). You run out of ammo, and have to go get more. Killing yourself for rail ammo could technically be called camping, because you're essentially the spawn for more ammo, but anyone can steal your rail, or go up to the rail pad to get a rail themselves. So, I wouldn't consider that camping myself.
People always accuse others of camping for many reasons, but no one is camping unless they're guarding a weapon spawn. That's the only real definition of camping.

OK, i just got accused of camping on CTF4. Now tell me if this was camping. They had a killer railer, so when I got the rail, I used it to keep him from getting it. I never reloaded (killing myself to get 10 more), and I wasn't crouched on the rail plat. I was on my base moving around and switching to rocket and shotgun to defend the flag when they got close. I was dead on with it, so maybe thats why he was pissed. I brought the flag back to our base 5 out of the 10 caps and scored 3 myself. And scored 2 caps when my teamate brought the flag back. I guess I was supposed to not use the rail, or only while flying through the air. I don't know, give me your opinion on the definition of camping on CTF4.
