Yeah, that Insex gets some awesome screen caps. I still don't get how he does it. He's explained it to me a few times and it just seems too complicated. My compliments to the master of the quake3 screen cap. He's workin on the quake4's. Won't be long and he'll blow us away with those too.
About the names, I just think they should be up there somewhere. And since the site has two, I put them, one on each side. I'm not sure where they will end up in the end. If I put them below the image, it pushes the whole page down. If I put them one on each side, they will be off the page on smaller resolutions. It kinda comes down to on the image. I'm looking into getting them in the main table above the admin message, but it starts to screw with the other pages since they all use the same template. It may just come down to on the image.
I've been tossin round the idea of setting the names up there in a spot that stays, and then changing the banner pretty regular. If you get a killer screen cap of some in-game action, we cut out a prime piece, and there's the new banner. It's like they do over at own-age.com. They have a set spot at the top for the banner, and it changes all the time. Still not sure on the final way it will be. If insex keeps puttin out these awesome banner pics, he'll be the man in charge of the banner.  Just haven't settled on a final layout. |

| I like that banner. That screenie of Sarge is way cool...good foreground to background depth...cigar and a rocket launcher, tough guy. Nice big pictures, good color. What do you think of the site name being in the middle between them? |

Yeah, I know, it's just fun to do. I had a final idea on the animation at the top. I may not do it now, but I'll tell you my idea.
Right now the top banner is one big animated gif. (230 KB) I can cut out just the animated part (the doors section) and have the two sides regular images, that will make it not bad on file size. Then I was thinking about having the doors open, and while open, a player model walks into view and takes a couple of shots, then walks out of view just before the doors close again. Just a one way animation, not a loop, but just run once on load.
Ok, now that my crazy ideas are out of the way, what do you think of the banner as it is, asuming no animation and the doors just stay open. Is that 'ok' or is there something that needs to be added or changed or different? Maybe a background instead of just black. Although the black lets the player models stand out a little more. Maybe more player models in there. Anything different or is that it? Let me know. |

| Well, it's a good start. But yea, I would say without animations for the banner is better. Animations take up more file size.<br> |

OK, I changed a few things. The moving banner is gone, YAAAHOOOO. LMAO. Well it was fun while it lasted. Anyways, I tryed an animated gif header with links buttons to home and forum. But didn't like the way the buttons looked in it. I left it up so you can see, but added buttons bellow for navigation.(update: I switched to the animated banner without the buttons) I may change the banner to one withought the animation in a bit. Want to be sure you guys see this one first.
I'm not sure if I will have the animation at all in a future banner, it makes the file size to big for me to be comfortable with. Who knows. The banner has Quake 4 guys on one side and Quake 3 guys on the other. Still playin around with a banner. Just can't make one I'm happy with.
Kinda like the look of the buttons though. They are easy to make and change, but that damn banner can be some work, The future will tell. Keep the input coming, it helps to have different opinions. |

No, it's pretty unanimous that the moving banner has to go. I was just playin around and thought it was cool. Then after going to the site a few times, it gets real anoying. So the moving banner is on it's way out.
I made a new banner for the top, and it will be fixed in place. It took me a couple hours to get the new one put together. It may be anoying also, or maybe even too big a file size. It's like the one on top, but with quake 4 characters on the left, and quake 3 guy's on the right. Also, I went in quake 4 and got a series of screen caps of a door opening. Took those and made an animated gif. So in the middle will be the door opening, to reveal the quake4 logo. Not a permenant thing, just more playin.
One time, you guys will say thats the one. We'll just have to see which one. New one should be going up soon. Maybe even by the time you read this. Oh well, more work....err playin.

| Cool Div, I like it. Black and green is really keen. I like the background picture. Not sure about the moving banner though...might be better in a fixed position. Maybe it moves faster on a newer computer. |

ok, I put a background and changed the font color for the posting area. That popup for visual or not was coming from a postnuke module I had turned off. I had to accually go via ftp and delete the thing. Go figure.
I'lll play with the background color till I find something that is eye appealing and still gets the job done. Now when your posting, you know how you can look at the post you are replying to below the box your typing in. That has black font which is a problem to read with the background. Still looking where to set that.
Still looking for the setting to allow html in posts. It says it's on, but obviously it's not. The frickin settings page is hella hard to read. Since it says it's on, I'm guessing it is and that it's a bug thats not letting it work.

Update: I did some reading and found something about html in posts. It says that even if you allow it, you have to list which tags to allow. I never did that before and it allowed them so who knows if it will help. I'll add some like.... <br> <strong> <a> <p> ... If there is any others that you want, let me know. Hell, it may not work. |

Ok, I see the problem now that I'm using the forum. This sucks. And I know about the top being anoying. It is to me also, I just thought it was cool and was planing on having it for a day or two just to show off my html and javascript skills. I already have the code to fix it to the top like a normal top banner.
Hmm, I just went to the bottom of this box and clicked the options button on the grey box below and typed white in the text color box and now I can see what I'm typing. But when I click preview, it starts all over. Visual mode, etc. OK, I'm putting the theme back till I can figure this shit out.......
Now it's set back and I can see what I'm doing. The grey box below is now gone, not sure what that was. hmm, this may take more than I thought. I may have to run the forum on a different theme than the front page. Try to find one close enough to the same look. The forum settings page in admin that you use to try and adjust the settings is all white with white font, so it would be next to imposible to tweak it with that theme. I can't see what I'm doing. lol. Well more work to do before I can use that theme. Its tough when I use a CMS for the site and the forum is a different program hacked into it. Things don't always match up as far as usefullness.
And for the top with quake 3 and 4. I bought both names and they both point to this site, so I thought I'd put both so someone looking for quake 3 wouldn't think the site was gone. Maybe put the characters from each game on the side of their respective names. Hmm, sounds interesting. Tough working on a site when it's live. Have to work on bugs while in use. Can't let bugs go for days till you get time to fix them. Work, work, work, whooa is me. lol. |

OK, now I'm getting carried away. Have a look at what I've done HERE. I used some javascript to have the top banner float. It follows the page as you scroll, always staying at the top. It Kinda "Floats", lmao  . I could see how it could get anoying, but we'll see what you all think. My daughter liked the fixed background image and said "wouldn't it be cool if the page scrolled behind the top logo". That was enough to get me started. About an hour of goofin around with different scripts and "poof" she got what she wanted. So have a look and let me know what you think. I'm not even sure if it will work on the whole site once the theme is in place. The link I'm giving you is a preview link for that theme. It may be only the front page that it works for. Anyways, let me know what you think. |

OK, I took your advice and killed it for a couple of hours  . I finally figured out what I did. First thing started when I asked another friend to take a look. He has a 20+ inch lcd and he has his resolution cranked way up. The background image I have is 1024x768, so when he went there with his higher rez, the background image didn't go all the way accross. It ended with about 3 inches of white on the right side. I went in to set a BG color, so what the image doesn't cover will be black. Then I tried to set it centered and thats when I killed it. I got sooo far off of the original code that I had to start over. After a couple hours of off and on playing I got it back,
Then to the images. I played a little in photoshop to make a new BG and banner image. Was a little burnt out by then, so I put up what I had. If you want to give it a go at either one, go ahead. I just use screenshots and images from a google search. I'll play some more tomorrow. So in your spare time, get the photoshop or paintshop or whatever, and play away.
Have a look and see what you think of what I got. |

I think it looks good for a start. Here's my two cents if you want 'em.
-Looks good with the green and black theme colors, very Q4ish.
-I like how you made the background stand still, while the user scrolls up and down the page.
-I think more of a mechanical look would be better, rather than a green gasous background. Think of the website being "Stroggified." 
-Put a pic of a Strogg monster at the top. |

I've been looking around for a new theme now that you brought it up. This one is getting a little old. Of course, if I get a new theme, it will get tweaked allot, but to make a new one, oh boy! Hey, I got an idea, you make one. , j/k. I wouldn't even know where to begin to make my own.
I found one that had a lame background but the idea was ok. I put in a homemade quake4 background and it might be a starting point. You can have a look at what I got so far here. Would have to change the blue looking shit (it doesn't match the look) (Update: I changed it to a grean border for the boxes) and add something at the top, but has possibilities.
I'll be looking around and seeing what tickles my fancy, then I'll see what you all think. I installed a module called auto theme that lets you preview themes on this site before installing them, and you can tweak them from the autotheme admin area.
So, we'll see what happens.
Update: On the theme I linked to in this post, I've been playing with it a little. I added a banner thingy at the top (not final, but seeing if I could do it) and I've increaded the font. I wish I could stop it from Italisizing the font in the news stories. It's driving me crazy. Oh well. Just playing. |

I was only kidding around. But since you are thinking about it, I think for all websites the theme should be the same for both the forum, and the whole site. I saw that example you linked to, looks real nice. You could always be creative and create your own theme.  |

Well, I took out the III in the logo, banner thingy at the top, cuz the site is for both 3 and 4. I could put a 4 in there but I'm not sure. Now I wanted to ask you about the theme idea. Are you talking about just the forum, or the whole site. I saw a quake 4 theme for the whole site, but I can't find where to download it. You can see it in action here. I've been thinking of changing the theme, but wasn't sure how it would go over. So what do you think?
