Very interesting facts Judas. I esspecially liked the Wiki link.
I knew all of those facts except for one, the instant kill with the gauntlet. I never knew that, and I've been playing Q3A since it came out in 1999. |

Did you know...
In Quake III Arena, the Power up known as Quad Damage, contrary to it's title, only Triples the amount of damage done.
to change this, use the command, G_QuadFactor 4
Two weapons that did not make it to the final product of Quake III Arena, were a Chainsaw and a Grappling hook.
In the beta it used to be that commands were not prefixed by a '/'. . If the command was entered correctly it would be set, otherwise if there was a typo or invalid command, it would display as chat text for everyone to see your error. This caused a problem if a server admin was in a game and typing in the server password, if he messed up everyone could see the password and take control of the server. This was eventually fixed during the beta
For a period of time in the final release of the game the gauntlet could be used to instantly kill someone by pulling up the chat dialog box and firing the gauntlet. If anyone touched you they died instantly. This was a popular method of killing someone as they exited the portal in q3tourney2- though considered very cheap by most. This was eventually fixed.
The bot "Bitterman" is the player's character from Quake 2
Additionally, Ranger is the character from the original Quake
Doom and Crash are both characters from the original Doom novels/games
TankJr's backstory (from the manual) is a reference to an easter egg in the last level of Quake 2, where the player can find a Strogg Iron Maiden making love to a Tank Commander
The Gladiator bots from Quake II were ported to quake III and incorperated into the game by it's creator, The gladiator bot Zero (who couldn't hit the side of a barn if 'he' wanted to) was renamed Xaero and made the hardest opponent of the Q3 game.
All these facts can be found on Wikipedia |
