Well, I'm getting my new speed for 44.99 or something like that, but I'm sticking with cable. I get my basic cable TV service from them at a cut rate (if you know what I mean) So I'm still waiting for the new speed. Goes into affect April 30th, so, real soon.

Cool Have you looked into the new dsl that sbc is offering?? its 5mb down, and the upload allthough slower is still quite impressive, I know 2 people who have dumped their cable connections for this new dsl plan, it runs i think $45.95 a month. Well, when I signed up for high speed cable a couple years ago, I paid 50 bucks for 768/128, and that included a ten dollar fee to earthlink for e-mail addys. The cable co. had a deal with them that Earthlink would set up the servers and stuff to start the internet access over the cable for this 10 buck fee. Well the contract ran out, so they ousted earthlink (who now wanted $4 to keep the e-mail addys) but kept the 10 buck fee and upped the connect speed to 2mbs/128kbs. I didn't like to have to still pay the $10 fee, but I did like the 2mbs.

So yesterday I get a notice in the mail that they are changing service packages for the TV part of the cable service. I guess something to do with the new contracts with one of the majors, (I remember reading something about it, but can't remember the details) So they are dropping channels and adding new. In all the papers and advertisements in the envelope is a slip of paper reffering to the high speed internet access. So my NEW speed will be 3mbs/256kbs. Now that sounded nice to me, but the kicker is they are finnally dropping the $10 earthlink fee. That is the best part. Cheaper and faster speeds, who would guess that a company would do such a thing?

Now I've heard that you can call your cable company and ask to have your speed split. So if you have 3mbs down, you could have 1.5 each way. Now that is something I might like to do. I'll have to ask about that. Then I could run a server and accually have it playable. Well it all takes affect april 30th, so I'll have to see how it is then.
