Excellent strategies, Div. You certainly have a lot of knowledge, especially when it comes to defense.

I can write about anything on the game for your site, if you wish. I'm still trying to wrap up write-ups for my own site (once I get around to it). But if you'd like me to write-up something for this site, just ask and you shall receive.

My favorite for defense is CTF1.

The flag room has two entrances that are easily viewed from several locations. If you guard from upper level, the area near the shotgun works the best as long as your not to close to the wall. (rocket splash damage off the wall). If you guard from below, the flat wall next to the plasma oposite the upper section works the best for me. You hit them crossing the upper section towards the flag with plasma, or if they come in the lower entrance, hit them as they look for the health next to the plasma, or as they head for the bounce pad to the flag. I personally like the upper spot for guarding.

Although, that damn insex does his rocket jump from the lower door to the flag that is hard as hell to defend. Razz If you know a player on the other team uses that technique, it makes it a bit easier since you can somewhat expect it.

Good write up on the techniques of defense, insex, I wish you'd right up articles for the front page. You have mad writting skills.

I figured I'd spark some discussions on this forum to help liven things up a bit.

List your favorite Q3A maps which you like to play defense on. Include within your list the reason(s) why you like to play defense on those maps, and what strategies you incorporate into your routine to defend your flag.

I'll go first.

q3ctf1 - One of my favorite maps. In the flag room, there are two Yellow Armors, a Plasma Gun, and a Shotgun. When the enemy attacks from above, spam them with Plasma Cells. When the enemy attacks from below, blow them away with Shotgun Shells when they take the bounce pad. After a few frags, you should collect enough ammo for your Rocket Launcher.

q3ctf2 - I like to sit in the flag room with a Railgun. I prefer to stand on the floor against the wall opposite of the yellow armor. From here, no one can sneak up on me, because I can see every opening leading to and from the flag room. I also time Mega Healths and Yellow Armors.

q3ctf3 - Just like in Troubled Waters (q3ctf2) I can view every opening to and from the flag by standing in front of the flag. Also, I like to trick incoming enemies by standing behind one of rounded-off walls on either side of the room. This way, if they enter the room from below, I can pop out when they reach my Yellow Armor and blow them off the ledge with my Rocket Launcher. There is plenty of armor in the flag room and surrounding areas, and Regeneration spawns every two minutes.

q3ctf4 - People can say what they want to say about Space CTF. But the truth is that this map was designed by the creators (Willits, I believe) for camping. End of story. Therefore, I use the Railgun to the best of my ability. I also rely heavily on my Machinegun for pushing opponents into the void when I don't have any Slugs for my Railgun, and I draw out my Shotgun quickly whenever they take a bounce pad near to me. Timing the Mega Health is also critical here. The only negative aspect of this map is that the Railgun is risky to obtain. So in a 1v1, if one opponent is slightly better than the other, the match will become very one-sided very quickly.

q3tourney6_ctf - Just like Space CTF (q3ctf4) this map was designed for camping. Except, the Railgun is more easily accessible on this map, so it's much less one-sided in close match-ups. I mostly keep an eye out for enemies crashing in from above. That way, all I have to do is hit them once with my Railgun, and either watch them crater or finish them off with splash damage from my Rocket Launcher.

q3w2 - I like to perch on the Mega Health ledge, opposite side from the Railgun. I time Mega Healths to stay at full health, and whenever possible, I retrieve the Red Armor and some Lightning Gun ammo. From my defensive point, I have a clear view of all openings to and from the flag room. I peg incoming enemies with Slugs as they come in, and finish them off with the Machinegun or Lightning Gun whenever necessary.

q3w7 - I perch from the ledge directly above the flag with a Rocket Launcher and Lightning Gun in hand. Whenever invaders go for the flag, I peg them from above and finish them off with the Lightning Gun whenever necessary. Once the enemies figure out where I defend from, I change positions and hide behind the Yellow Armor or the opposite side.

q3wcp5 - I like to defend from within the flag room. I keep an eye on the upper entrance, as that is where most people like to break-in from. When the enemies are attacking me from a distance, I peg them with Slugs from my Railgun. When they move in closer, I drill them with my Lightning Gun.

q3wcp9 - Spider Crossings, a map that most everyone can agree upon. I like to stand from behind the flag and patrol along the walls of the flag room. I always make sure I have plenty of ammunition for my Rocket Launcher, Lightning Gun, and Railgun. When the enemy is far away, I defend with the Railgun. As they move in closer, I attack with the Lightning Gun and Rocket Launcher. To change things up a little bit, sometimes I'll defend from the Rocket Launcher ledge by hiding in one of the corners and pegging incoming invaders as they wander in. Two other areas which are good to defend from are the steps leading to the Lightning Gun, and each slope leading to the Mega Health and Powerup tunnel. For the steps, I stand halfway up the stairs so that the top of the stairs block enemies from seeing me right away. From the slopes, I also stand halfway up them, so that incoming invaders cannot see me until they get too close and it's too late. Getting Mega Health and Red Armor is critical here, as Mega Health spawns only once every two minutes and Red Armor spawns only once every sixty seconds.

q3wcp14 - Basically, I time the Mega Health, Yellow Armor from the teleporter room, and make sure I have plenty of Lightning Gun ammo. Having the Railgun is also useful here, for taking out enemies from the upper platform.

q3wcp17 - I like to stay within the flag room and spam Grenades through each opening. If a Grenade hits an incoming invader, it should weaken them enough to where I only have to nail them with one Slug. I also like to keep a Lightning Gun handy, so I can drill them as they take the bounce pads.

q3wcp18 - Two of my favorite spots to camp from are the Lightning Gun ledge and the Railgun ledge. From the Lightning Gun ledge, I try to peg invaders with a Rocket first, then finish them off with my Lightning Gun. From the Railgun ledge, I weaken them from a distance by hitting them with a Slug, then finishing them off with my Lightning Gun or Rocket Launcher as they get closer. I also like to roam around the flag room and collect goodies. I randomly spam Rockets in each opening to catch my enemies by surprise. When they're within a close distance, I whip out my Lightning Gun on them. If they're far away, I defend from a distance with my Railgun. Timing and getting the Quad Damage in the middle of the map is critical here, because if you or your team doesn't get it, the other team will!

That's about it for me. Next!
