My only problem is that it is sooo frickin dark. I have to have the flashlight out all the time and when I run into a bad guy, I have to switch to the gun and shoot all around till I finnally hit something. Too dark to play if you ask me. I've had troubles like that with other games , and was able to tweak gamma in the config, but can't find it in doom's config.
Something with my pc settup I guess, but help is needed for Doom3.

How can I get that noCD patch so I don't have to pop in the CD every time I want to play? |

Fucker, you got too much time. I'm about 3/4 the way through. I only get about an hour or so a day. It is a kick ass game, can't wait to get to hell.

Yep! Playing Doom 3. I just beat it the other night on Marine setting and I started over on Nightmare. You only get 20 HP!!! One hit kills you. It's gonna take a ton of quicksaves and probably about a month to beat it like this.
BTW, Hell rocks! Can't believe how cool that level was. |

I found a ductape mod. It puts a flshlight on your main weapons. I think it's not what the game was made like, so I haven't tried it. I found it on another site, but now that I look for it, I found it here.. http://ducttape.glenmurphy.com/ So it has been spread around. There have been about 20 or so mods made for it already. A flashlight deathmatch mod. Where the muli-player arena is dark and you battle by flashlight. Another is a 32 player mod for a server. You can do a google and find allot. It's unreal how fast this game is being played to the end, then hacked and modded. Sure sign of things to come with this game engine.

| I use r_brightness 1.5 and r_gamma 1.5. It's still near what the makers intended, but a little brighter so I don't have to move up closer to the screen and squint my eyes. I use EDSF for my movement and have Spacebar as my flashlight, so I can whip it out quickly and easily. I find myself with my flashlight out all the time when I'm not fighting but just walking around. I wish the creators of Doom 3 would have made a way where we could use a gun AND the flashlight at the same time so I don't have to wait for monsters to walk into the light. |

I don't have a screamer, but it works for me.
Athlon XP2400+
FIC nForce2 mobo
512 3200 DDR ram
ATI 9800 pro w/ 128meg's ddr ram
Maxdor 80 gig 7200 rpm HD
Sony 8x DVD +r/-r 48x cdrw drive.
I played with the gamma and brightness settings in the config and got it playing about what I think they intended. Can see well in lit areas, but black in dark corners and shit. Will have to check into settings for on-line to see if I can get it to smooth out in a crowd. Thats the only prob with on-line. Hell, I had probs with quake3, back in the day, when in a crowd. Just needs a little tweakin and I'll be fine.

P.S. Not sure what happened to the other 2 addicts. Maybe playing Doom3? |

Sounds like fun. What are your system specs?
I haven't actually played it yet. :-\ I got as far as the lady explaining the UAC just before the map loads, then the system crashes. Bah!
==
I found this on a web site:
"Tweak the gamma — If the game is too dark for you and cranking up the brightness slider doesn't suffice, you might try playing with the gamma setting from the console. Again, pull down a console with ctrl-alt-~. Then type "r_gamma 1.2" and see what you think. The game's default is "r_gamma 1", and I've found something between 1.2 and 1.4 works for me. Any more than that, though, and you really risk destroying the game's realistic lighting. Be careful with this setting, because you could lose the look the game's designers intended."
And this forum debate on cvars:
http://www.forumplanet.com/planetdoom/t ... 438663&p=1
...and check out the Upset Chaps Doom3 Guide...has tweaking suggestions:
http://ucguides.savagehelp.com/Doom3/Doom3Guide.htm

I've been getting my news on planetdoom, doomworld, and newdoom. Know of any other good ones?
Where are the other two quake3addicts forum users? LOL! |

I got the new drivers and DX9.0c and it didn't help the brightness. But I did use the console to do a "seta r_gamma" and found the brightest I could get it. At least it's playable now, not as bright as I'd like, but I can at least play. Have to use the flashlight ALLOT, but it's not too bad.
The game is pretty damn good though. Scares the shit out of ya when you start running into bad guys you can't see. You start opening doors and stepping back real fast. Then creap in with the flashlight to get a look around before going in. LOL. Only played for maybe a half hour so far, but will definitely play more when I'm off friday.
(update) Played a little on-line multiplayer, and had to set-up the brightness in the config so it would stick. Single player play's fine on my system, but multi boggs down in a crowd. Have to see about some tweaks.

Well, it apears it doesn't have a console. I tried the normal "~" key and nothing. Looking through the manual, gives no hint of a console.
I have looked in the config file, but the only gamma setting I found is to have the in-game brightness adjustment on, or off.
Did a google search and only come up with stuff for the beta and not the full release. I'll keep looking and playing with it. Damnit, I'll figure it out somehow.
(update) Found it. Damn thing is a key combo. CTRL-ALT-TILDE (~) key. I'll play with it another time. Getting tierd tonight.

There is a console, I assume. I haven't been able to play it yet. Does /cvarlist work? What was the cvar for Q3 gamma? Try a wildcard search for it with the cvarlist command.
cvarlist cg_
cvarlist *gamma*
Hope it leads to something.
