In this months Maximum PC mag they took RAID to the lab and proved it has few performance gains for gamers. They timed loading of a map in different games and showed that a single drive loads equally as fast or even faster that RAID striping. They tested many controllers and drives, including SCSI. They went on to prove that load times, in Doom 3 for example, are decreased by faster CPUs. This study has changed thoughts about RAID performance for gamers. Totally interesting...who knew. And my buddy just built a RAID 0 system using 2 WD Raptors...oops! I'm not telling him
It just goes to further show the importance of a fast CPU in a game like Doom 3.
