Well, I got the new router so now I don't get a 3000 ping to the PC sitting next to me. I wanted to see if the Ventrilo would work, cuz I like it better. Sound quality is better and it is not a resource hog. I don't even notice any lagg when there is 4 people on it. (Thats from when I ran it before) I tried to get a Teamspeak server going and it was a little harder than ventrilo, so I stopped messin with it. We'll just have to play it by ear, but Ventrilo for now.

So did you decide if you were going to stick with the Ventrilo server or switch it over to TeamSpeak 2 Div'?

Bummer. My cable internet used to do that when it rained. Now my UHF channels get fuzzy and my digital reception breaks up. |

Sorry I missed ya, I was at work.
And now the fun part starts. It rained allot here in So Cal. the last few days so my connection is crappin out till it dry's out a bit. Happens everytime it rains, I get crap for a couple days. I have a 3meg connection and I'm only getting about 300kbs till it clears up. Strainge that my upload is still up where it should be, but down has took a dump. I can't play Quake till it gets better, but there should be enough bandwith for the vent server. Wish me luck on this clearin up!

I'm on Ventrilo now, it's about 8:20 PM. Looks cool, I like the sound effects. I'll stay on for a bit in case anyone else shows up.

Cool. I'll give it a try when I get a chance to play the day after Jan. 1. I hope my headset still works.

OK, I got a test server up. When your logged into the site, an extra link will show up in the "Main Menu" block on the top left. Unregistered visitors will not be able to see it. It says "Ventrilo" and when clicked, it will start your ventrilo program and log you in. If you don't have ventrilo installed, you can get it from here http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Once you have ventrilo installed you can start it and setup your nick and any preferences you want, then click the link to join. It's easy to get it tweaked when your in with someone on the other side to let you know how your sounding. I'll be in and out gettting it setup.
We'll see how this works, feel free to get your buds in there. I set it up with a Lobby that you join by default, then there is two channels, Blue and Red for team play.

I know that there's not very many "Active" users, but acording to the server stats, I get allot of visitors. You can tell also by the number of reads on the news articles on the front page. I was just thinkin that it would spread interest in the site as well as get some people who visit to register and maybe even post a thing or two. Then again, if they could just talk, why post? I'm just lookin to get more "Active" members, lmao (maybe wishfull thinkin).
I ran a ventrilo server before and with 5 people on it, I don't notice any drag on my game play. Never ran a teampeak server but it sounds a little bandwith hungry (read requirements on thier site). It's been a while since I played with it, so I'll look into getting a test ventrilo server up and we'll see how things go. I'll keep ya posted.

I think that's a very generous idea from you Div'. If you set up a Ventrillo or TeamSpeak 2 server, I'll use it. I don't know if there will be a lot of people using your server though, since there's only about 3 or 4 active people on this website and forum... lol. I think voice communication is great not only for team games, but for fun to chat with people outside of the game. I'm not familiar with Ventrilo though, I've never used it, but I hear it's great. I've only used TeamSpeak 2, that's what my clan mates and I use for our www.ctfx.com battles. But if you do decide to set up a voice communication server, I'll connect to it.

Ventrilo server. What do you all think? Should I start one for the site members. I found a module and a script to have it linked on the site. When you click the link it fires up ventrilo and logs you in. The module would display the status of the server and who's in the server chatting. I would be running it on my local server, not hosted or on the webserver. So I'll only do it if enough people want it or would use it. I ran one before and it's not demanding at all. Pretty cool to be playing Quake3 and be able to talk to other players while playing. Let me know what you think.
